DJI Mavic 2 Series was released almost a month ago in fact it has made some loyal pilots with Mavic Pro feel upset. The turmoil arose due to confusion about whether to replace the Mavic Pro unit to the Mavic 2 Series. With information about the DJI Mavic 2 Series specifications, many pilots compare the DJI Mavic Pro VS Mavic 2 Series. Which is better between the two?
Although DJI itself has mentioned that in terms of cameras, DJI Mavic 2 is far better than the Mavic Pro, there are still some pilots who need stronger reasons to replace their Mavic Pro to the Mavic 2 Series. JogjaSky technicians who also participated in comparing DJI Mavic Pro VS Mavic 2 Series found 5 reasons why DJI Mavic 2 Series was better than Mavic Pro.
New Gimbal and Camera
The Mavic 2 Series comes in two versions: Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom. Both have different camera capabilities. Mavic 2 Pro has a Hasselblad camera with a 1-inch sensor with a 20-megapixel resolution. The Mavic 2 Zoom has a 12-megapixel resolution 1 / 2.3 inch sensor camera with the ability of the first 2x Optical Zoom ever in the history of DJI drones. Both cameras have far better quality than the Mavic Pro does.
However, that is not the new thing. The gimbal design on the Mavic 2 Series camera is different. This new design includes two new arms that flank the camera on the right and left. This dreadlocks design will certainly make the Mavic 2 camera sturdier. By bringing up this new gimbal design, DJI hopes that complaints from many Mavic Pro pilots about gimbals that are vulnerable to damage will be over.
The rear of the Mavic Pro VS Mavic 2 series camera is different. The Mavic 2 Series camera has a more protective case with total protection on its flexible cable. This new gimbal design makes DJI Mavic 2 Series cameras not only able to move up and down but also able to rotate from left to right or vice versa
Form of New ESC
JogjaSky Technicians were surprised to find that several components on the Mavic 2 Series ESC board were different from the ESC boards on the Mavic 2 Series. If the Mavic Pro, Flight Controller (FC) is installed with the ESC board, then the Mavic 2 Series composition is changed. The ESC board on the Mavic 2 Series looks neater than the cabling structure.
New GPS and FC IMU Modules
The architect on the Mavic 2 Series is different from Mavic Pro. Things that then make some components in the Mavic 2 Series change shape and position. On the Mavic 2 series, FC IMU and GPS Modules are made into one component and placed right behind the gimbal. This is certainly very different when compared to FC IMU on the Mavic Pro attached to the centre board.
Additional Vision Sensor
Another thing that makes the comparison of DJI Mavic Pro VS Mavic 2 Series increasingly won by the Mavic Series because of the addition of Sensor Vision. The addition of this sensor makes the Mavic 2 Series have Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing capabilities. This additional sensor is on the left-right side and the top of the Mavic 2 Series. This certainly makes the Mavic 2 Series more sensitive to every obstacle in the flight path. However, keep in mind that vision sensors on the right-left side of the Mavic 2 Series are only active when in Beginner and Tripod Mode only
The Mavic 2 Series also adopted the technology available on the Mavic Air, APAS (Advanced Pilot Assurance System). With this technology, the Mavic 2 Series is able to avoid obstacles automatically when flying forward or backward.
LED on Bottom Shell
Another point that makes the comparison of the DJI Mavic Pro VS Mavic 2 Series increasingly won by the Mavic 2 Series is the presence of LEDs on the Mavic 2 Series bottom shell. The use of these two super bright LEDs replaces sonar technology that previously existed on the Mavic Pro.
These two super bright LEDs are new capabilities that exist in the Mavic 2 Series. Besides being able to be used to help the Vision Module to detect the shape of the landing surface, the super bright LED at the bottom of the shell is also very helpful for the Mavic 2 Series when flying at night.
The five things mentioned above are the reasons that make the comparison of the DJI Mavic Pro VS Mavic 2 Series won by the Mavic 2 Series. In addition to the camera, additional super-flying LEDs at the bottom shell and additional vision factors on the Mavic 2 Series are things that really make the Mavic 2 Series better than Mavic Pro.
